AI writer for Reddit

Reddit is the hardest platform to use AI on. Redditors can smell an AI-written comment from three subreddits away, and they will downvote you into the shadow realm. Here's how to use AI on Reddit anyway — without getting banned or ratio'd.

Real talk: if you post AI-generated content without heavily rewriting for the sub's voice, you WILL get downvoted, and mods of active subs will ban you. This guide is about drafting with AI, then rewriting like a human. It's not a shortcut — it's a starting point.

What AI is actually good for on Reddit

What AI is bad for on Reddit

The workflow that actually works

  1. Read 5 top posts and 10 top comments in the sub you're posting in. Notice: how long are they? What tone? Do they use emojis? Do they cuss? Do they mention their own experience?
  2. Open WriterPi. Attach the sub's front page or the specific post you're replying to.
  3. Ask for a draft with specific constraints: "Draft a Reddit comment for r/[sub] in reply to this post. Match the sub's voice: informal, first-person, mentions personal experience, no marketing language. Under 4 sentences."
  4. Read the draft. Rewrite it in your own words. Add specifics from your life. Remove any sentence that sounds vaguely corporate.
  5. Post.

Sub-voice tone guide

Different subs, different rules:

Prompt templates that actually work

For post drafts

"Write a Reddit post for r/[subname]. Topic: [what you want to say]. Match the sub's voice: [informal / technical / storytelling]. Include a specific personal experience. Under [word limit]. End with a question that invites discussion."

For comment drafts

"Reply to this post as a Reddit comment. My angle: [your point]. Include one specific example. Match the sub's tone. Under 3 sentences. Don't start with 'This' or 'Great post'."

For post summaries (when you're catching up)

"Summarise the top 3 things being discussed in this thread. Bullet points. Include the top comment's take."

The one-question test before you post

Read the draft out loud. If you sound like a LinkedIn thought leader, delete it and start over. Reddit rewards specificity, opinion, and self-deprecation. It punishes polished neutrality.
